Have any of you done a degree in Social Work at Goldsmiths?

I've been looking into doing my MA in Social Work, and really want to stay in London. Ideally, I'd like to study at Goldsmiths, but all my friends who went there were studying art so they don't really have any insight into what the social work programme there is like.

Anything you could tell me about it would be appreciated. Thanks!

Does anyone have an idea of when the dates for exam resits will be announced?
I read in the examinations booklet that they would be 'from August 29th', but I'm trying to arrange a holiday and I need to know ASAP because I plan to resit a couple.

Hi everyone, I was wondering if any fellow Goldsmithers were going to the Isle of Wight Festival in about a month. They have the most amazing line-up and I really want to go but none of my friends are willing to pay the ticket price. :( But I am. So I'm looking for some people to go with me. Please let me know if you or anyone you know is going or wants to go! Cheers!

Hi everybody,

I applied to Goldsmiths' MA in Anthropology and Cultural Politics program, and through informal correspondence with the admissions officer for the program, I was informed that since I am currently finishing up my senior year in college, any acceptance that I might receive would be conditional on my graduating with an upper 2.1 degree. I am an American student and as such am completely unfamiliar with British grading policies.

I currently have a 3.3 grade average and should probably graduate with roughly the same GPA. I looked it up, and some websites said that that was roughly equivalent to a low A average in American terms, which would probably be about a 3.6 and above. Barring some miracle, I cannot get that kind of GPA by graduation, which was probably evident in the transcripts that I sent in as part of my application. Upon further inspection of the website, I found that the minimum degree required for the program was listed as just being an upper 2.1, which I think equates to about a b+, which I have.

My question is this: for students currently pursuing graduate work ot Goldsmiths, is it common for MA programs to require such a high degree as an upper 2.1? I am hoping that the admissions officer just made a mistake while typing. And if a gpa falls short of that stated in a conditional offer by just a little, is there still a chance of getting in anyway?

Sorry to write you guys a novel, I'm just really stressed out about the whole after-college thing.

I'm deliberating over where to go to uni in September. Out of my two main choices, the course which I like the sound of the most is at Goldsmiths. However, I've heard not particularly awesome things about New Cross / New Cross Gate.
I've visited in the day and it didn't seem so bad, but night could be (and probably is) a completely different matter.
I don't want to spend three years of my life being scared out of my wits, but then I don't want to settle for a lesser course and stay at home up North either, unless I really have to.
Would it be wise to stay in some of the more central UCL dorms, and just deal with the extra expense (which is looking a tad dicey already) and hassle? Or is everyone I've talked to making a big fuss over nothing?

grad. school-- oh my!
Hey all, I'm an American currently doing undergrad at the University of Florida. I'm doing a little research on graduate schools I might like to apply to. I was just wondering if anyone here is a postgraduate, particularly in the English MA program.

If so-- any input re: acceptance and the department would be much appreciated!
(of course any fellow undergrads who know anything about the graduate programs at Goldsmiths are more than welcome to help me out as well!)

In any case, I was just wondering how competitive admission is and what the general environment is like, also about particularly good professors in the English department or any information about creative writing.

Alright, I suppose that is about it.
Thanks in advance for any input! :D
